Nurse Informatics Boot Camp
This intensive, two-day on-line course is focused on the current trends in Informatics and issues in Health. The Nurse Informatics Boot Camp covers content for nurses interested in becoming Certified Informatics Nurses and for other clinical professionals working in Informatics.

Facilitators

Susan NewboldSusan K. Newbold, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, FHIMSS, is a Healthcare Informatics Consultant. She is uniquely qualified to teach this course, given her experience in the consulting, vendor, academic and hospital worlds. Board Certified in Nursing Informatics, Dr. Newbold initiated the first review course in nursing informatics in 1995 which she taught over 130 times. In 2001, she won the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing International Technology Award for Knowledge or Knowledge Advancement for this course.

Susan NewboldBarbara Happ, PhD, RN, has over 35 years experience as an instructor and course designer for the education of adult learners. Most recently with the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) she received a Teaching Recognition Award from the Graduate School of Management and Technology at UMUC for outstanding teaching performance and demonstrated commitment to excellence in graduate education. Professor Happ is currently teaching Information Technology for Health Care Administration, a course she developed for UMUC’s Health Administration Informatics Masters Program. She also mentors new faculty. She taught and consulted at Georgetown, George Mason, Marymount, Hampton and Shenandoah universities in the Washington, DC. area. She has worked for IBM, AMS, and Birch and Davis where she planned and implemented hospital information systems. She has many publications related to nursing informatics. Barbara earned her PhD from George Mason University in 1993. Dr. Happ is a volunteer in the Prince William County Medical Reserve Corp and a volunteer camp nurse.

Continuing-Education Units

Participants will receive 14.0 hours of continuing-education credit upon completion of this offering. Axxess Consult Inc. is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.
